A Living Legend Raúl Makes a New Record
Feb. 15th 2009, around one o’clock afternoon, a new record was made by the Capitan (captain) of Real Madrid C.F, Raúl González Blanco. During the soccer match between Real Madrid and Sporting Gijon, Raúl added two goals in his career which put him on the all-time top scorer of Real Madrid. The two goals added were his 308 and 309th goals. Previous tops scorer was Alfredo di Stéfano who had scored 307 goals in Real Madrid.
Raúl’s club career is one of the most brilliant of all soccer players. His first debut from Real Madrid first team came at the age of 17. Raúl have spent 14 years in the club Real Madrid. Since then Raúl had played 504 matches and scored 216 goals just in the Primera League (Spain soccer league). Raúl, now as the capitan of Real Madrid, is called the icon of the club. “Raúl Madrid” some people says he is the club itself. From his great leadership and gentlemanlike personality, many people have followed and accepted him as the capitan of the team.
Despite all the success in the club team, he wasn’t very fortunate with his national team career. Although Raúl scored 44 goals in 102 matches, he had never won any championships with his national team. His 44 goal record also makes him the top leading scorer of Spain. Raúl even lost his position in the national team by upcoming stars of Spain such as David Villa and Fernando Torres.
Over his 14 year soccer career, he had achieved 6 La Liga titles, 4 Spanish Super Cup titles, 3 UEFA Champions League titeles, 1 UEFA Super Cup title, 2 Intercontinental Cup title. These numbers of titles are incomparable among all soccer players. He was twice the Pichichi (leading scorer of the year in the league) and twice top scorer of UEFA Champions League.
Raúl also has set a record in the UEFA Champions League. So far, he has scored 64 goals with his 123 appearances which are both leading records.
Now as age of 31, his fantastic movements had become a bit blunt. Despite his falling tendency, the reason he is still one of the main members of the strongest club is, his comprehension of how the balls move on the ground is distinguished over his long experience on the pitch.
People respect Raúl. Raúl González will write over all new records as he steps onto the pitch.
